“Eat this!”
Standing with their backs together and their guns loaded, two friends, Chuck and Stacy, find themselves unloading round after round at the growing undead population that has surrounded them. The gruesome twosome are standing in an open field. When the guns fail, they even throw in a few high-flying kicks to the head. It’s not enough. No magical dagger and no spell can call off this supernatural night of terror.
Welcome to the nights of Demon Wind. Directed by Charles Philip Moore, this film opens with a body being burned on a cross. The year is 1931. Pay that little attention, though. We are headed for the modern day as this head-on collision of a horror flick adds more unintentional humor than legit scares, thanks to some off the wall animated effects and the amateur acting from its cast.
Cory (Eric Larson) really knows how to show his girlfriend, Elaine (Francine Lapensée), a good time. Demon Wind, a low-grade horror title about one man’s search to find out the truth behind how and why his grandparents were murdered, is equal parts eerie and cheap. It’s also all about of kicking all sorts of supernatural ass. I mean, if you were trapped in a mysterious old shack that’s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside and a topless demon beckoned you to come out and play with her, you’d shoot first before wandering outside. Right?
Well, shit. I guess I might venture outside, too. She is quite tempting. But there’s no way in hell that I’m following her into the barn. That horned skeleton, complete with a retracting tongue, is enough of a warning for this dude.
Turns out, there is no safe place in this mysterious house. Even the surrounding area, full of rolling hills and a spooky forest, winds up being a nature trail to hell. Pumped with constant fog (that’s key in this one) and some ultra-slimy demons, the creepy enviros won’t let anyone leave. Cars, once their engines are turned off, won’t start again. One poor girl (Sherry Leigh, Slaughterhouse) gets her innards sucked out of her through her neck…until she becomes a skeleton.
And, as the group of characters – including Jack Forcinito, Stephen Quadros, and Mark David Fritsche - learns more and more about the mystery of grandma’s curse and the impending doom that surrounds them, they quickly find themselves outnumbered and ill-equipped to handle the increasing urgency of the undead, especially when the Grand Demon is summoned.
The blood flows freely throughout this once super popular VHS offering. Vinegar Syndrome gives Demon Wind a new lease on its shelf life with their stellar handling of its Blu-ray debut. Newly remasterd and 2K scanned from the original 35mm print, the horror flick and all its gooey madness has never looked this good. Someone should have videotaped the round table read-through.
Demon puppets from hell? And one of them is Lou Diamond Phillips? I am so there.

With an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.0 track, the 1080p transfer has strong details in the gore and the set. Black levels are strong and the colors cast by the rolling hills are bright. There are nice lines throughout. This release comes with a DVD version.
