Some pretty cool stuff is beginning to happen with the Dark Knight Rises marketing campaign. And it all coincides with the announced beginning of production for Christopher Nolan's third installment in the Batman franchise. His previous two Batman films benefitted greatly - as did fans - from the viral aspect of the advertising campaign that slowly revealed aspects of the film and allowed site visitors to build their own buzz about the film. And looks like they're doing it again.
First, the official site for The Dark Knight Rises is now up and running. You can access it at www.thedarkknightrises.com, but don't expect to see much other than a blank black screen. You will however hear some creepy audio begin to play that sounds like chanting of some kind. Sure it won't be long before some industrious individual deciphers the code. Stay tuned.
Secondly, via a twitter feed which you can access here https://twitter.com/#thefirerises the promoters have created a Twitter game whereby visitors are encouraged to tweet the hashtag #thefirerises which will add your avatar to a collage that when finished, will reveal the first image of Tom Hardy as Bane.
If you don't have time for such foolishness you can see the pic of Tom Hardy as Batman villain, Bane below instead.
The Dark Knight Rises is slated to hit theaters next summer on July 20, 2012.
